ABA Intermediate Boxing commences today

The Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka along with the Referees
and Judges Association of Sri Lanka will conduct ABA Inermediate boxing
tournament 2012 from today at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
Male and female boxers between the ages of 17-34 years will face
elimination bouts during July 9 to 13 at the Sugathadasa Stadium to find
Sri Lanka’s future winners at national levels. These pugilists will be
freshers who have not participated in other formal tournaments or major
meets.
The bouts will commence daily at 4pm with the finals working off at
5.00pm.
The men’s rounds will be three minutes each and a bout will consist
of three rounds. The women’s bouts will consist of four rounds of two
minutes each. Medals and certificates will be presented to the winners
and runner-ups of each bout.
This year’s competition is expected to contain a high standard of
boxing and a larger contingent is expected to take part from all boxing
clubs in the island.
Majority will be from the Army Boxing Club while Navy and Air Force
totaling over 40 pugilists.
Slimline will field eight boxers.
The Linea , Unichela, MAS Koggala, Vidyartha, Kandy YMCA, Silueta,
Cusualline and MDS Boxing Clubs are expected to field tough pugilists.
