Pro Foods Pro Pack attracts large crowd
Pro Foods Pro Pack 2012, an exhibition showcasing the food chain, was
opened by Senior Advisor to the President and Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the BMICH on Friday.
Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, local and foreign
investors, government officers and businessmen also participated in the
exhibition held for the 11th consecutive year.

The exhibition which ended yesterday attracted a large crowd.
Indian companies participated under the banner of Agricultural and
Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which is
an apex body set up under the Indian Commerce and Industry Ministry for
the development and promotion of export of agricultural products
including floriculture, fresh fruit and vegetables, processed food,
livestock products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, cereal
products, groundnuts, peanuts and walnuts etc.
The special attraction at the Indian Pavilion put up by APEDA was the
display of wines produced by seven wine companies from India whose
samples were available to prospective buyers from Sri Lanka.
These wine companies were M/s John Distilliers, M/s Chataeu 'd Ori,
M/s Renaissance Winery Pvt Ltd, M/s Nashik Vinters Pvt Ltd, M/s Vintage
Wines Pvt Ltd, M/s Vallonne Vineyards Pvt Ltd and M/s Valle De Vin Pvt
Ltd. About 50 domestic and active wineries in India, mainly located in
the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa participated.
The industry has about 30 million litres production capacity.
In a year, about 700,000 cases of wine are sold in India.
It is estimated wine consumption in India is expected to grow at the
rate of 30 percent in the next 10 years and in the coming years, wine
consumption can reach between five million to 10 million cases. India's
wine exports are also growing and account for about 20 percent of the
domestic market.
Sri Lankan companies will have the possibility to tie up with Indian
wine companies to market Indian wines in Sri Lanka.
Apart from the display of Indian wine at the exhibition, several
Indian companies participated and displayed their products. |
