Lanka earns over Rs.18.4 b from peacekeeping operations

Sri Lanka has earned over Rs.18.4 billion from its peacekeeping operations around the world since year 2004.

According to the Sri Lanka Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya, there are over 1,200 Sri Lankan military personnel currently engaged in peacekeeping operations around the world.

“There are 1,000 peacekeepers in Haiti, 200 in Lebanon and military observers posted with the UN in eight different African nations,” he said.

“The total amount paid for the soldiers is Rs.12.3 billion. In Haiti, the peacekeepers are involved in a range of activities ranging from patrols to camp protection,” he said.
