The 11th edition of ProFood Pro Pack and Agbiz 2012 organized by Sri
Lanka Food Processors Association together with Lanka Exhibition &
Conference Services (Pvt) Ltd., concluded yesterday at the BMICH on a
grand note with a record visitor participation.
The exhibition which opened on July 6, comprised of 270 stalls
representing 217 companies, both home and abroad, whilst showcasing
their compressive products and services related to food and the
packaging industry, this year's exhibition was an ideal platform for the
general public to experience the exact and entire process where “food
meets the fork.”
The incorporating events of the exhibition were “Halal Food Asia” and
“Livestock Dairy Asia” and foreign exhibitors for ProFood Pro Pack and
Agbiz 2012, included from Thailand, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey
and Argentina. Speaking at the event, Industry and Commerce Minister
Rishad Bathiudeen said: “ProFood and Pro Pack has become a leading
platform to showcase the local process food industry output. Both food
and packaging sectors in Sri Lanka, had seen rapid modernization and
expansion in recent times.

As a result of the development vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
many concessions have been offered to these sectors. In 2011, the total
exports from processed food industry stood at US$ 95 million, which is a
41% increase as against year 2010, whilst the Sri Lankan processed food
industry grew by 31% in 2010. The rising processed food and beverage
industry has 4400 establishments with 132,000 people engaged in it.
