IESL Engineering Excellence Awards – 2012:
Nominations close on July 16
A higher propensity for pursuit of excellence in profession among
citizens has been the hallmark of countries that has forged ahead in
various fields and overall development.
Some of the most innovative solutions to challenges faced by mankind
had been a result of the quest for excellence in professions by men and
women of great vision, patience and perseverance.

Engineers being the backbone of infrastructure development in a
country, the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the apex body
for the profession in the country encourages pursuit of excellence in
engineering by rewarding the best and finest of its members,
individuals, organizations and companies for their outstanding
accomplishments and achievements related to engineering.
Nominations/applications are now being accepted for the IESL Engineering
Excellence Awards 2012.
In this article the President, IESL and the President Elect, IESL,
explain the significance of the awards to the country’s development.
President – IESL, Eng. (Dr.) Ananda Ranasinghe said that Engineering
Excellence Awards was first conducted by the IESL in year 2008 as a low
key event but was expanded over the years to a grand event and in year
2011 held at the picturesque Waters Edge with the Governor of the
Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal as the chief guest.
Awards were presented for eminence in Engineering, Excellence in
Engineering for Individuals, Excellence in Engineering for Organizations
and Chartered Engineer Awards.
Presently nominations have been called for the Engineering Excellence
Awards – 2012 for the award categories of Eminence in Engineering,
Excellence in Engineering for Individuals, Excellence in Engineering for
Organizations, Engineering Entrepreneur, Excellence in Journalism, Young
Chartered Engineer, Chartered Engineer, Social Responsibilities and
Environment, Engineering Heritage and Outstanding Engineering Education.
Being committed to the uplifting of the engineering profession in the
country, the IESL undertakes various activities for the qualitative
improvement of our engineers in various disciplines with the Engineering
Excellence Awards being one of them.
President Elect – IESL, Eng. Tilak de Silva said that the IESL being
the only organization that can award chartered engineer status to
engineers in Sri Lanka has more than 4000 chartered engineers in its
membership practicing all engineering disciplines throughout the country
holding positions from Engineer to CEO in almost all engineering
organizations in Sri Lanka.
