Museum thefts: CID takes over probe
The Criminal Investigation Department had taken
over investigations into the thefts at the Colombo National Museum
on Friday night. Investigators recorded evidence from over 30
persons in connection with the thefts, Police Spokesman SP Ajith
Rohana said yesterday.

Major human trafficking racket busted
The Fraud Bureau of Investigations has busted a
major human trafficking operation to Canada and apprehended many
suspects including the local mastermind. Headquarters Inspector of
the Bureau, Priyanka Wijenayake said that the local master mind
behind this operation was arrested in Colombo on Friday night.

Four nabbed with sea cucumber
Conch shells submerged in lagoon unearthed :
Special Boat Squadron personnel attached to SLNS
Welusumana of the Northern Naval Command arrested four persons who
attempted to illegally transfer sea cucumber in the seas off K Point
recently. They seized three pairs of diving masks and three pairs of
diving fins from the possession of the four persons along with 13
sea cucumbers freshly caught and stowed in a plastic box.

Murder case: eight acquitted
Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Kusala
Sarojani Weerawardena who concluded the trial of a 15 - year - old
murder case, acquitted eight accused indicted by the Attorney
General with committing the murder of Anthony Stephen Silva of
Koralawella, Moratuwa on January 24, 1996. The judge said in open
court that the prosecution had not proved the case against the
accused beyond reasonable doubt and therefore the court acquitted
the accused When the judgment was delivered on Friday, the
deceased's relatives who were in court, broke into tears and created
a scene by shouting in court.
