Four nabbed with sea cucumber
Conch shells submerged in lagoon unearthed :

Special Boat Squadron personnel attached to SLNS Welusumana of the
Northern Naval Command arrested four persons who attempted to illegally
transfer sea cucumber in the seas off K Point recently. They seized
three pairs of diving masks and three pairs of diving fins from the
possession of the four persons along with 13 sea cucumbers freshly
caught and stowed in a plastic box.
The arrested persons along with the items in their possession were
handed over to Jaffna Fisheries Department officials. Meanwhile, Naval
personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North-central Naval Command
while conducting checks at the Tavulpadu Fishing Marshalling Point
arrested another four men who had a non-electric detonator and two
safety fuses used for illegal fishing in their possession.
The four men were handed over to Mannar Police along with the items
in possession for further investigations.
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Gajaba of the North-central Naval
Command also recovered seven bags with conch shells which had been
clandestinely submerged in the Erukkulumpiddi lagoon on Friday. The Navy
unearthed the haul of conch shells according to information they
received. The conch shells are in Naval custody. |
