BOC accounts for over 47% inward remittances
“Sri Lanka received inward remittances worth $ 4
billion last year and the country has the potential to double the
value over the next few years. We now see a trend where the banking
system is being used widely to remit money unlike in the past which
is a positive sign towards enhancing the remittance volume,” Bank of
Ceylon (BOC) Chairman Dr.Gamini Wickramasignhe said.

Ukraine’s Aerosvit Airlines to enter Sri Lankan skies
Aerosvit Airlines, the largest air carrier of
Ukraine, will take to the Sri Lankan skies as a response to surging
demand for air carriages to Sri Lanka for its popular destinations.
Aerosvit which has excellent connections with 33 countries, covering
80 international routes is set to launch its non -stop flight to
Colombo from Kyiv by carrying its first passengers to Colombo on
October 23. “Aerosvit will conduct three flights to Sri Lanka per

Apparel industry maintaining dominant role
The apparel industry shows signs of maintaining
the dominant role in the country’s export sector recording continued
growth despite fluctuations in prime global economies. The year to
date published figures show an increase of 45% year-on-year for
apparel exports which under the trying global situation by any
standards would be a commendable performance by the industry, Sri
Lanka Apparel Exporters Association Chairman Rohan Abayakoon told
