Rally round to protect country – Ranawaka

All Sri Lankans in Western countries should get together to defeat foreign powers trying to damage the country’s good image, said Jathika Hela Urumaya General Secretary and Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The minister was addressing a press briefing held at the National Library and Documentation Services Board.

“Sri Lanka won peace after a humanitarian mission and the forces did not aim the civil community. The US has misunderstood the situation. They are accusing Sri Lanka while presenting false sources, such as the Darusman report and Channel 4 video clips,” Ranawaka said.

Leave to appeal granted in land case

The Supreme Court has granted leave to appeal from a judgement of the Civil Appellate Court of Ratnapura in an application filed by a petitioner in connection with a land dispute.

The Bench comprised Justices K Sripavan and R K S Suresh Chandra.

By this appeal the applicant sought to set aside the judgement dated August 31, 2010 made by the Civil Appeal High Court by Ratnapura and to restore the judgement of the District Court Embilipitiya.

The petitioner said on April 27, 2004, the district judge delivered the judgement in favour of the plaintiff.

Being aggrieved by the said judgement, the defendant appealed to the Civil Appeal High Court of the Sabaragamuwa Province in Ratnapura. Their Lordships of the High Court of Civil Appeal delivered the judgement on August 31, 2010 setting aside the judgement of the District Court and allowing the appeal with costs.

Being aggrieved by the judgement of the High Court of Civil Appeal, the petitioner filed this petition seeking leave to appeal on grounds that the said order is contrary to law and against the weight of evidence led at trail.

Dr Jayatissa de Costa PC with Lahiru Silva and Wijeratne Hewage appeared for the petitioner. The argument is fixed for January 17, 2012.
