The Devinuwara Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya and the sacred area around it
has obtained a great degree of development during the last one year
under his stewardship, said the Basnayake Nilame of the Sri Vishnu
Devalaya Dishan Wickremaratne Gunasekera.
This is in addition to the social welfare work undertaken by the
Devalaya trustees for the educational and social uplift of the people in
the area, he said. The Basnanayake Nilame said the guidance of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, Uva Governor Shashindra
Rajapaksa and the assistance received from Parliamentarian Namal
Rajapaksa, former Basnayake Nilame Kanchana Wijesekera as well as the
Viharadhipathi, other well wishers and devotees visiting the devalaya
had helped him to accomplish this task well.
He said Devala funds had been utilized to set up and maintain a
pre-school for 120 children at Welegoda with a teaching cadre of nine.
It is hoped to increase the number of pre-school students to 250 next
year.
Priority will be given to improve the standard of education imparted
to children in the Devinuwara education division by developing
underprivileged schools in the area.
Another programme envisaged is to develop Daham pasala education in
the area and repaint and develop selected temples in the district to
mark the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. |
