Pakistan celebrates 65th Independence Day

The 65th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated by Pakistan High
Commissioner in Sri Lanka Seema Ilahi Baloch and the Pakistani community
in Sri Lanka at the Pakistan High Commission yesterday.
High Commissioner Baloch hoisted the Pakistan national flag at the
ceremony to mark the occasion and read out messages of Pakistan
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Prime Minister D M Jayarathne in
their messages state the creation of Pakistan is a typical example of
the successful culmination of a long, hard, struggle against heavy odds,
under the inspiring and dynamic leadership of the founder Quaid i Azam
Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The Independence Day is an occasion to renew our
commitment to the vision and ideals for which Pakistan was created".
It further emphasized on the continuous efforts to build a strong,
prosperous and democratic country with a vision for future.
Pointing out the good relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, it
said that it had remained cordial and cooperative throughout. Both
countries have made persevering efforts to build on these solid
foundations and further strengthen the bonds between the two countries.
She added that the future is promising for Pakistan and Sri Lanka .
As Pakistan progresses successfully with some significant challenges, it
is moving ahead solidly defined as a progressive, moderate, tolerant and
prosperous society. The message further pointed out that following
consistent economic performance over the last five years, despite the
odds, there is hope for the future.
The ceremony was attended by the members of various diplomatic
missions, Lankan representatives and the Pakistani community in Sri
Lanka. |
