China would always stand by SL - External Affairs Minister

External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris has made it clear that the Chinese President and Prime Minister had assured the visiting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Beijing that China would always stand by Sri Lankan government when Colombo was threatened by any challenges levelled against it internationally.

The External Affairs Minister reminded about this assurance of the Chinese leaders to the Malwatte and Asgiriya Mahanayake Theras when he visited them yesterday.

Prof. Peiris also said that the Chinese government having been highly impressed by our success in defeating 30 years of terrorism in the country had pledged to extend its fullest cooperation to promote the country’s infrastructure facilities.

The minister also said that China was of the view that Sri Lanka’s internal problem had to be attended to and solved by Sri Lankan government itself and there should never be any foreign intervention.
