Police recover infant’s body from cemetery

Morawewa Police are investigating into an infant’s death whose remains were found at Rotawewa cemetery. The remains of a newly born was exhumed by police at the Rotawewa cemetery Sunday on a tip off. The baby was wrapped in a piece of cloth before it was buried.

A woman who is suspected to be the mother of the infant has been arrested by the Police.

Police added that the woman has accepted the remains as that of her child. Police further stated that the post-mortem was being conducted at the Trincomalee Hospital at the time this edition went to press. Medical tests are also in progress to ascertain if the woman was the infant’s mother.

A group of Police led by Crime OIC of Trincomalee Police IP Nishantha Bandara are investigating.
