Ntini’s international career ends
Makhaya Ntini’s international career came to an
end on Sunday on an occasion which was at least as much about
emotion and show business as it was about cricket. It was an
official Twenty20 international, which India won by 21 runs - but
Ntini’s farewell, the setting in a World Cup football stadium, a
Bollywood concert and a string of ceremonial presentations vied with
the cricket for top billing.

Top seed Bartoli romps past Safina
French top seed Marion Bartoli dropped only one
game in dumping former world number one Dinara Safina out of the
Hobart International on Monday. Bartoli was in commanding form to
put out the 2009 Australian Open runner-up, 6-0, 6-1 in one hour and
31 minutes in a night match.

McDowell falls short despite course record
Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell missed out on
a play-off after matching a course record as Jonathan Byrd won the
first PGA Tour event of the year. Byrd defeated fellow American
Robert Garrigus at the second play-off hole to win the Tournament of
Champions in Hawaii after finishing 24 under par.
