Sarath Chandra Rajakaruna dies

Former Minister Sarath Chandra Rajakaruna passed away yesterday. He was the elder brother of Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya and brother-in-law National Heritage Minister Dr Jagath Balasuriya.

Rajakaruna entered active politics by being the UNP Organizer for Dompe electorate in 1977.

He held several portfolios such as Food and Cooperatives Deputy Minister, Energy Conservation Minister, Coconut Industries Minister, Indigenous Medicine and Disaster Management Minister, rendering diligent people’s service.

Being the sixth of a seven member family Sarath Chandra Rajakaruna leaves his wife Mallika Rajakaruna, daughters Chama Wanasinghe, Sama Rajakaruna, and Niluma Wanasinghe and son, Western Province Provincial Councillor Harshana Rajakaruna. The body is lying at “Siri Radha Bawana”, Millathe, Kirindiwela for public homage. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
