Electricity tariff remained unchanged for two years

The electricity tariff has not increased during the last two years when compared with that of 2008 even though certain elements complained about an increase in tariff, said Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka when he commissioned the Badowita electricity scheme in Attidiya recently.

The Minister said the CEB has overcome the financial challenge it faced for the last 10 years by successfully managing expenditure and freeing itself from debt.

The Minister said the new electricity scheme costing Rs 2.8 million would solve the electricity problem faced by residents in Badowita. He said residents who are registered voters having financial problems will be provided with electricity on a relief basis.

Meanwhile, the Power and Energy Ministry said this scheme will benefit residents in the Kusum Housing Scheme.

The house owners in this scheme who are members of low-income group families will be provided with electricity connections on an easy payment basis under the Vidulamu Lanka Program of the Minister.
