Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake set up a Central Province Disaster Management Unit to provide relief to those affected by landslides and other natural catastrophes. The Central Province was severely affected due to torrential rains that lashed continuously during the last few days.

The Disaster Management Unit was set up in the premises of the Social Service Department, Kandy.

The Chief Minister has instructed all officials to work on the basis of an essential service until the bad weather situation eases, The newly set up unit will serve the public as and when required. The relevant sections of the Unit can be contacted as follows:
