‘English as a life skill’:
Great strides planned
Basing on the success of its program of activities in the year 2010
the Presidential initiative ‘English as a life skills’ plans to develop
a detailed action plan to implement it in the public school system.
Evolving an English speaking community in every rural school and the
establishment of an English Language Trainer Service are two principal
initiatives envisaged for the year 2011.
It is also planned to introduce Distance Teaching of English to
students in schools that have a shortage of English teachers. The
training of 23,000 English Language teachers that was begun earlier will
be completed this year.
Another project under consideration is establishment of nine
Provincial English Language Training Centres with state-of-the-art
language laboratories, classrooms, libraries and residential facilities
with the assistance of the Indian Government.
