‘English as a life skill’:

Great strides planned

Basing on the success of its program of activities in the year 2010 the Presidential initiative ‘English as a life skills’ plans to develop a detailed action plan to implement it in the public school system.

Evolving an English speaking community in every rural school and the establishment of an English Language Trainer Service are two principal initiatives envisaged for the year 2011.

It is also planned to introduce Distance Teaching of English to students in schools that have a shortage of English teachers. The training of 23,000 English Language teachers that was begun earlier will be completed this year.

Another project under consideration is establishment of nine Provincial English Language Training Centres with state-of-the-art language laboratories, classrooms, libraries and residential facilities with the assistance of the Indian Government.
