UPFA, the strongest political force
President’s policy and vision are clear:
The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) comprises over 33
political parties and groups. It works with 163 electorate Bala Mandalas
(party committees) in a well knit political campaign is by far the
strongest political force in the country today, UPFA General Secretary
and Education Minister Susil Premajayanth said at the Mahaveli Centre
yesterday.
Addressing a UPFA press conference, he said there are 1,800 grass
roots level branches in 22 Districts. Senior Presidential Advisor Basil
Rajapaksa MP has visited all those branches. All literature and
documents needed by the branches were handed over to the secretaries and
each branch is functioning well, the Minister said.
During the 2005 Presidential Election, President Mahinda Rajapaksa,
then the Premier, presented the Mahinda Chintana policy program.
President Rajapaksa’s new political manifesto will be presented after
December 17 when the Presidential Election campaign begins he said.
The Minister said this presidential election was the first national
election being held in the country liberated from the terrorists after
30 years.
“Before 2005 during the UNP regime led by Ranil Wickremesinghe there
were certain areas demarcated as territory under the administration of
the government and territory under LTTE control. But today there were no
such divisions,” he said. The President’s next step will be a leap
forward strengthening Sri Lankans with IT and modern vocational skills,
improving infrastructure and making Sri Lanka the Knowledge Hub of South
Asia. His policy and vision are clear but the Opposition does not have a
policy. The UPFA far ahead in the forthcoming presidential poll.
The clergy, professionals, trade unions, artistes, and student
organizations are behind the President in the campaign.
The President will win the election with a large majority,
Premajayanth noted.
