Brazil for Middle East Peace
Brazil: President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva assured that both
Israelis and Palestinians can count on Brazil to build a lasting peace
in the Middle East. During the signing of co-operation accords between
Brazil and Israel Lula said that "both Israelis and Palestinians can
count on Brazil to build a peace whose positive impact will trascend the
frontiers of the Middle East, extending to all humankind."
We know there is a high price to pay for a lasting reconciliation,
said the Brazilian executive, but stressed that Israelis and
Palestinians have really nothing to fear from the sacrifices of peace,
he said.
When posed a question on the friendship of Brazil both with Israel
and Iran, Lula answered that necessary peace was not built if you don't
talk to both political and religious forces who want peace and those who
oppose it. If the aforesaid is not done, said Lula, the negotiating
process turns into a club of friends in which all agree to one thing,
and those in disaccord are out, so peace won't ever be possible. "Peace
in the Middle East is a hope for all.
The speakers are identified, the difficulties are known and solutions
exist. However, peace and reconciliation can only be reached through
dialogue and negotiation," he affirmed. Lula said that today there is
more to talk, "we need to find more speakers who want to help to build
peace in the Middle East."
"We do not have a veto to talk with whoever, so long from that
conversation we extract a word or even a comma that can contribute to,
definitively, construct a lasting peace", stressed the Brazilian
President.
