Minister A.H.M.Fowzie |
The work- to- rule campaign aimed at embarrassing the Government was
a utter failure which had no effect on the smooth functioning of
essential services at any level, Petroleum and Petroleum Resources
Development Minister A.H.M.Fowzie told the Daily News yesterday.
The Minister advised motorists not to rush into panic buying in order
to stock fuel falling prey to the machinations of anti-Government
elements.
He said that all offices of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation(CPC ) are
running as usual and no sabotage is reported. The Ministry has taken
certain precautionary measures to meet all attempts to create a fuel
scarcity at filling stations throughout the country.
Meanwhile, the Government has decided to increase the salaries of the
employees of the Water Supply and Drainage Board by 22 percent.
This decision was taken at a discussion between trade union
representatives and Treasury authorities at the Finance Ministry
yesterday. The work -to -rule campaign staged by opposition party backed
trade unions was not felt by the public and it suffered a premature
death, sources confirmed. |
