'World should help' :

East Africa needs emergency food aid

Ethiopia: Humanitarian organizations have called to provide emergency food aid for over 750,000 people affected by drought in East Africa.Oxfam organization said in a release the world community should help palliate the food shortage in that region, the most severe of the last ten years.

About 15 million dollars are needed now to mitigate the difficult food situation there, the organization indicated. The countries most affected by the persistent drought are Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Uganda, followed by Sudan, Djibouti, and Tanzania.

Oxfam director for East Africa Paul Smith said the rains have become scarce in the area because the seasons have shortened with climate changes.
