Five held for double murder

Police arrested yesterday five suspects in connection with a double murder in Kondavil, Jaffna on July 28. The jewelleries robbed from the victims were recovered from the suspects. Weerasingham Sureshkumar (37) and Suwadeepa Sureshkumar (26) were killed by unidentified men in Aladi road, Kondavil on July 28 night, police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake said.

A special police team deployed under Kopai OIC CI Ashoka Kumara arrested five suspects in Kondavil area on Monday around 7.00pm. “We believe that the suspects have close links with the double murder case which had taken place on August 28 in Kondavil”, he added.

Police seized three gold chains and other jewelleries and a mobile phone from the possession of the suspects.

“These jewelleries belonged to the victims”, the SDIG Mediwake said.

The Kopai police are conducting further investigations.
