Indian netballers under Lankan coach
Bernard PERERA
India's Netball Federation has recruited former Sri Lankan national
coach Lourdes Jayasekera as its foreign coach. She has been given the
task of finding new talent for the Indian pool as they host the
forthcoming Commonwealth Netball Championship in October.
It is understood that Indian Netball Federation wants to make a big
challenge to other Commonwealth countries.
At present the team has to undergo specialised training and with this
view the Federation has decided to use her services for the team.
In fact she has been entrusted the full power to find new players
from various parts of India which she has done up to now. According to
Jayasekera a youthful set of 30 girls ranging from the age 19-23 are
undergoing training. She says the girls average height is 5' 10" and few
are above six feet.
She also said that more will be introduced to the pool soon and will
be brought to Ahamedabad where the poolists are housed at the moment.
