Trespass case:

Minister Thondaman acquitted

Kandy High Court Judge Bandula Karunaratne yesterday overturned a verdict issued by the Nuwara Eliya Primary Court and acquitted three persons including Minister Arumugam Thondaman of charges preferred against them in a trespass case.

Earlier Minister Thondaman and Deputy Ministers Muttu Sivalingam and V. Radhakrishnan were sentenced to six month’s imprisonment suspended for three years on charges of forcibly entering the Ceylon Workers Congress office in Nuwara Eliya with six others and chasing out one Suppiah Sathasivam between June 4 and July 6, 2003. They were also fined Rs. 1,000 each and prohibited from entering the said building in future.
