It was a Wednesday morning, the public day of the Western Provincial
Council Chief Minister's office, people were filling forms at the gate
and after getting a token number they were allowed to meet the Chief
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga for various problems they face such as
getting transfers, school admissions, pension delays and many more.
As promised he had kept Wednesday to meet the public and to solve
their problems and there were more than 150 people at the Chief
Minister's office yesterday morning around 9. a.m.
"People from different walks of life were waiting from as early as
4.30 in the morning but we issue the forms around 7 a.m though the Chief
Minister starts his work around 9 a.m. But the Chief Minister also work
till very late until he sees the last person," a security officer at the
gate told Daily News.
Teachers perform a distinguish duty during their tenure of service
but when they retire from their service after many years, the officials
at the education zonal departments send them from pillar to post causing
immense problems.
"People from far away places like Agalawatta, Kalutara or from remote
areas of the Western Province come to my office for their problems and I
always try to solve them. During the last month on Wednesday's I worked
till late some times till 9 o'clock. But that's my duty to them and it
was a great satisfaction serving the people, Prasanna Ranatunga noted.
