Butler puts South Africa under pressure
Ian Butler led the New Zealand attack as they restricted South Africa
to just 128 for seven in their World Twenty20 Group D clash at Lord’s
here on Tuesday.
Miserly medium-pacer Butler took two wickets for 13 runs in his four
overs with all-rounder Scott Styris chipping in with one for 10 and
off-spinner Nathan McCullum one for 18.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith top-scored with 33, the left-handed
opener facing just 35 balls. But no other batsman made more than JP
Duminy’s 29.
However, this was a ‘dead’ match with both sides already through to
the second stage Super Eights after they’d each defeated minnows
Scotland. New Zealand were again without captain Daniel Vettori because
of the left-arm spinner’s shoulder injury.
