UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Seneviratne told Parliament yesterday
that the UNP honoured President Mahinda Rajapaksa and three Forces
Commanders for ending the war.
“We also honour and respect all our heroes in the Armed Forces who
had sacrificed their lives and limbs to eliminate terrorism in the
country,” he said.
Speaking at the debate on the extension of the Emergency Regulations,
the MP said civilians who were either injured or killed during the war
should also be paid the highest respect.
He said the Government should not allow the International community
to interfere in our internal affairs unnecessarily.
The UNP will not allow any Officer to be brought before the
International War Crimes Tribunal as their commitment on behalf of the
country should not be belittled. He stressed that the UNP will not
oppose the extension of emergency Regulations. “But we are against if
the Government uses Emergency Regulations to harass journalists. We urge
the Government to reveal the names of the 50 journalists who had
supported the LTTE,” he said.
“Their names should be revealed to the public and if proven guilty,
they should be punished,” he said. |
