Missing girl’s body found

A girl who was abducted by an unidentified suspect was found dead yesterday morning dumped in a thicket in Kasamduwa, Mihintale. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said W. Lakshani Gunaratne (6) disappeared on Saturday morning from her residence in Kasamaduwa while she was playing.

“Following information Lakshani’s body was found dumped near her house around 9.00 a.m,” he added. Police arrested a suspect aged 42 from the area in connection with abduction and murder.

“The alleged suspect has sexually abused his daughter,” SSP Gunaskera said.

Lakshani’s remains will be subjected to medical examination to ensure whether she was sexually abused by the suspect, he said.

Mihintale Police is investigating.
