The countries which voted against Sri Lanka at the Human Rights
Council were compelled to do so as a result of false propaganda launched
by the LTTE and diaspora supporting the LTTE, the Minister said
yesterday.
Addressing the weekly press-briefing, the Minister said the
Government through Sri Lankan Embassies in these countries will launch
international propaganda campaigns to reveal the country’s real
situation and the humanitarian mission carried out by the Armed Forces.
“We are not against the countries which did not vote for Sri Lanka at
the Human Rights Council,” he said. “The victory at the Human Rights
Council is a result of the cooperation and assistance from the
international community,” he said.
He said the UNP had questioned if President Mahinda Rajapaksa was
playing Robert Mugabe’s or Nelson Mandela’s role.
“I emphasize that President Rajapaksa never substituted for both
characters as he followed the best and exclusive methods suitable to the
country to eliminate terrorism and make the entire country peaceful and
prosperous,” the Minister said.
