Link Natural ventures into cosmetic exports

Growing market for personal health care products:

Link Natural, a leading manufacturer and worldwide exporter of herbal health and personal care products in Sri Lanka has ventured into manufacturing and supplying cosmetic products for the international market under private labels making another breakthrough for the country, Chairman Link Natural Products Dr. Devapriya Nugawela told Daily News Business.

He said, “This is a great achievement. We have not been able to compete with countries such as Thailand and India for these products earlier.”

At present the Company has four areas of business, namely pharmaceuticals, the generic Ayurvedic products, Herbal health care products, essential oil and personal healthcare products.

The Link Natural Soul Centre has taken cosmetic therapy to new heights with a range of skin, body, hair and mind care products.

These products have been carefully developed over a period of time through a vigorous process of research combining cutting edge technology with the purest resources of nature, because we want to position ourselves as a modern wellness company involved in all aspects of wellness, said Director, Export and Business Development, Fazal Mushin. Most of the cosmetics are used for professional applications because the company deals with spas and makes tailor-made products for them.

One Company that Link deals with has 60 outlets worldwide and Link products are used in sixty percent of their consumption, he said. The Banyan Tree is one of their main clients.

The company has found that personal health care is a huge growing market and the income levels for those products have increased. The company hopes to enter the domestic market from the professional market in the near future.

However, these products with some uniqueness will find niche markets instead of having it in supermarkets, Fazal said. A new showroom will be opened shortly in Nawala.

The total cosmetic product range includes 18 products. Three hair care products, namely Herbal Shampoo, Allo Wera Shampoo and Herbal Hair Conditioner which includes Ayurvedic ingredients such as Gotukola. Godapara, Keekirindiya and Weralu. Fifteen products for skin and body care include Herbal body wash, bath foam, facial cleanser, facial moisturizer, moisturizing lotion, facial massage cream, Hand lotion, foot massage cream, Skin firming cream, anti stretch mark cream and glycerine soap.

The company won the Presidential awards for the past two years in the personal care category.
