National Labour Migration Policy for Sri Lanka
The Cabinet has approved a Memorandum submitted by the Foreign
Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to
implement a National Labour Migration Policy for Sri Lanka.
The National policy is developed in three main sections. The sections
are governance of the migration process, protection of empowerment of
migrant workers and their families, linking migration and development
process.
Embulgama Sacred Area Development Scheme
The Cabinet approved a Memorandum submitted by the Urban Development
and Sacred Area Development Minister to implement development projects
by the National Physical Planning Department.
The projects are : Preparation of detailed plans, Construction of
security fence, Improvement of the international roads, Provision of
parking facilities, Construction of retaining walls, Construction of
public Conveniences, Improving the drinking water system, Conservation
of the area consisting the ancient monuments & buildings, Rehabilitation
of the illumination system, Landscaping. Rs. 35.5 million has been
estimated for the development activities of the proposed project.
Construction of Bridge No.51 on Hendala-Uswetakeiyawa Road
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by the Highways and
Road Development Acting Minister to award the construction of the above
bridge No.5/1 is located on Hendala-Uswetakeiyawa Road to State
Development and Construction Corporation (SD&CC) at a cost of
Rs.42,089,894.56.
Selection of a construction contractor for the improvement of
Padeniya - Anuradhapura Road under EDCF Loan SRI 18
The Cabinet has approved a Memorandum submitted by the Highways and
Road Development Acting Minister to award the contract for the
improvement of Padeniya - Anuradhapura Road Project to M/s Keangnam
Enterprises Ltd at the negotiated contract sum of Rs.5,722,524,316.76
(exclusive VAT). The Government has received a loan from the Exim Bank
of Korea under the Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) for the
Improvement of Padeniya - Anuradhapura Road (Length of 80 Kms
approximately)
Accessibility facilities for persons with disabilities
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Social Services
and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda to seek the support of all
Ministries to help implement the provisions of the said Regulation on
access to public buildings, common places and services by persons with
disability by allocating necessary funds from their annual budgets to
make the accessibility rights a reality for the rapidly increasing
disable population and to include people with disabilities in all
programmes of all Ministries, and to enforce the Circular No.27 of 1988
issued by the Ministry of Public Administration which was further
revised in 1999 and 2004 to provide three per cent of the employments
amongst disable people.
