‘No question of ceasefire’
No one should act to strengthen terrorism -
President:
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday that
although there are many requests to go for a Ceasefire there was no
time and need for it at this stage and the Government’s aim was to
liberate the remaining civilians in the No Fire Zone within the next
five or six days.

Inflation drops to its lowest level in five years
The point-to-point change in the Colombo
Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI) dropped sharply to 2.9 percent in
April from 5.3 percent in March. Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard
Cabraal told the Daily News inflation dropped to 2.9 percent as
projected by the Central Bank. This is the lowest level of inflation
ever recorded since January 2004.

Northern resettlement begins
Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP
yesterday said the Government will not give into conditions from the
international organizations assisting Sri Lanka. He was speaking at
a ceremony to initiate the resettlement of civilians displaced by
terrorist atrocities in the Northern Province at Savariarpuram in
the Musali DS Division, Mannar.
