‘No question of ceasefire’

No one should act to strengthen terrorism - President:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday that although there are many requests to go for a Ceasefire there was no time and need for it at this stage and the Government’s aim was to liberate the remaining civilians in the No Fire Zone within the next five or six days.

“Therefore, the question of a ceasefire does not arise at all,” the President added.

President Rajapaksa was addressing the ceremony Walawe Urumaya in Embilipitiya to commemorate the 104th birth anniversary of D.A. Rajapaksa and the 50th anniversary of the constructing of the Chandrika Wewa.

The President also commissioned the auditorium of the Mahaweli Buddhi Mandapaya constructed at a cost of Rs. 60 million as a tribute to late politician D.A. Rajapaksa in Embilipitiya town.

President Rajapaksa also laid the foundation stone to commence rehabilitation work of the Chandrika Wewa under the Walawe Urumaya project.

The estimated cost for the project is Rs. 7,500 million. “Those leaders who provided body armours and weapons to the LTTE were finally killed by the LTTE. Therefore no one should act to strengthen terrorism. If someone tries to help or strengthen terrorism, it will cause serious damage not to Sri Lanka but also to the entire world,” he said.
