Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana said although people are
undergoing certain difficulties there is a need to strengthen the hands
of the President to eradicate terrorism from the motherland.
"If we celebrate May Day this time we could have celebrated it till
midnight like in the 1970s because this time all working class are with
us. Western Province postal votes results proved it. As a leader of the
working class, President Mahinda Rajapaksa always met us and asked about
problems of the working class and gave solutions to them," he told a
press conference in Colombo.
Nidhas Sevaka Sangamaya General Secretary Leslie Devendra said:
"Though we decided to celebrate May Day in Bandarawela due to security
problems we didn't stop our programs. Today our country has to face many
problems. We have to think about Sri Lankans as one and not only about
ourselves. It's true that our members have a lot of difficulties. But
first we have to strengthen the hands of the President to eradicate
terrorism from the motherland."
