No risk from local pork

Since all measures have been taken to block Swine Flu from entering the country, the public need not fear consuming locally prepared pork, Human Resources Development Director of the Department of Health K.M.G. Kedaragama said.

He said instructions have been issued to ban the import of all pork products into the country while airport officials have been asked to order flight crew to ensure no remnants of meals taken by foreigners in the flights are brought out and that all such remnants be burnt. He said only a minimal quantity of pork is imported for foreigner guests at tourist hotels and these too are canned. But since canned pork too has been banned there is no chance whatsoever of the flu entering the country.
