FCCISL appeals to international community
The FCCISL has appealed to the International Community and Donor
Agencies to assist the Government to resettle the Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs) in their traditional homes and villages by providing aid
which is urgently required for resettlement.
The genuine need of the Tamil people from the North is immediate
resettlement for them to resume their normal livelihood and for the
children to go back to school as soon as possible. The GOSL and the
international community should facilitate resumption of businesses
especially for SMEs in the North.
The banks and financial institutions should provide loans and other
financial facilities required with the intervention of the Central Bank.
The equipment and material needed for supply of water by constructing
tube wells, water purification and sanitation is a major need. The
pressing duty of the international community would be to supply these
requirements which will ease the suffering of the northern community
rather than focusing on political settlement which is not practical in
the immediate term. We take this opportunity to thank India and other
countries and donors who have pledged financial support for the IDPs.
We wish to appeal to all the local politicians not to antagonize the
international community by damaging statements that could jeopardize the
goodwill built by Sri Lanka with all the countries and the United
Nations. In the present global environment we need the support of all
countries to rebuild our nation. FCCISL through our member chambers in
Jaffna, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar will assist GOSL and Donor
Agencies in providing relief to suffering people and rebuilding the
North and the East. Courtesy |
