61st Senior National TT Championships:
Sanjaya Ariyaratne
Deepika Rodrigo (Lake House Sports Club) reigned supreme as she
completed a triple crown while Rohan Sirisena won the men's single title
at the 61st Senior National Table Tennis Championships concluded at the
S. Thomas'College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia, last evening.
The tournament was conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri
Lanka and sponsored by the Finance and Guarantee Group.
It was plain sailing for Rohan Sirisena as he posted a straight sets
win over Indika Prasad in a completely one sided encounter which lasted
under half an hour.
Former Sri Lanka number one Indika Prasad failed to live up to the
expectations and surrendered the final meekly.
Meanwhile Deepika Rodrigo won a triple crown by winning the women's
singles, women's doubles and the mixed doubles titles.
In the women's singles final she defeated Ishara Madurangi in an
exciting five setter. Deepika had earlier clinched the women's doubles
title with her partner Ruhansi Wijekoon where they had the better of
Srimali Wimalaratne and Jayamali Udagedera also in a marathon five
setter.
In the mixed doubles final Deepika partnering her husband Indika
Prasad had the better of the combination of Ishara Madurangi and G. P.
H. Sajith in straight sets. The defending men's champion Thilina
Piyadasa did not compete in this years tournament.
Mervyn Jayasinghe Deputy Chairman Finance and Guarantee Group was the
chief guest. |
