Bomb blast in front of Lake House

An explosion has taken place next to the Regent flats, close to the Lake House roundabout, short while ago. According to the defence sources, the bomb has been exploded in a public phone booth this evening (January 08) at around 7.50.p.m.

Minister D.M Dassanayake succumbs to injuries- Ragama


Non-cabinet Nation Building Minister, D.M Dassanayake succumbed to injuries around 12.25 p.m, at the Ragama Teaching Hospital, informed sources said. Deputy Director of the Ragama Teaching Hospital said, the Minister sustained severe injuries due to the claymore explosion. Six others were also admitted following the explosion.

Fragmentation of Motherland will not be permitted:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa fervently appealed to the nation to rally round him and his Government and provide the optimum support and co-operation in the process of liberating the severely oppressed and downtrodden Northern masses who are gripped by the clutches of LTTE terrorism.

Social Service and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday asserted that as long as Velupillai Prabakaran was alive, the LTTE would never agree to peaceful settlement of the current conflict adding that the LTTE always used peace talks to re-group and strengthen its lost power.
