CFA annulment won't delay political proposals

All Party Representative Committee (APRC) Chairman Prof. Tissa
Vitarana said the Government's decision to abrogate the Ceasefire
Agreement would not result in any undue delays to presenting the final
set of political proposals, deliberated by the Committee.
Prof. Vitarana said in all probability, the much awaited proposals
would be finalised before the end of this month. The APRC Chairman added
that almost all major issues had been finalised, barring a couple of
proposals being deliberated to put the final touches.
Prof. Vitarana hinted that the discussions centred on the role of the
Central Government with matters pertaining to the provincial level
already being finalised.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to convene a party leaders'
meeting after going through the final draft where the document is to be
subjected to further deliberations.
The Committee is expected to meet for further deliberations and
according to Prof. Vitarana there is no truth to some reports that the
APRC was scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss the impact of the CFA
abrogation.
Prof. Vitarana said no such meeting would take place.
The discussions would solely be based on the proposals with the
intention of putting the finishing touches soon. |
