BASL's Lawasia conference in Colombo

The Lawasia Information and Communications Technology Conference 2008
of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will be inaugurated on
January 21 at the Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo. The technical sessions will
be held on January 22 and January 23, 2008.
The Lawasia Information and Communication Technology Law Conference
Organised by the ICT and Emerging Laws Committees of the BASL will focus
on a range of issues affecting the legal fraternity as well as other
professionals in relation to the use of information technology, said
Javed Mansoor, Chairman of the Information Technology Emerging Laws
Committee at a conference held recently at the OPA, Colombo.
Main speakers include Professor Ian Waldon from UK, Dr. Gordon Hughes
from Australia and Malathi Das from Singapore. They will join eminent
Judges, lawyers and academics from Sri Lanka.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will address the conference participants
by satellite. The topics of discussions include - E-Commerce, recent
legislation concerning IT, E-Banking, Intellectual Property and IT Law,
Forensic issues related to IT and telecommunications in the internet
era.
The Lawasia IT Law Conference which was initially to be held in
India, was brought to Sri Lanka on representation made by BASL Secretary
Sunil D.B. Abeyratne. The President of the Lawasia will also grace the
occasion. Shyamali Rajapakse, Himali Urugodawatta, Deputy Solicitor
General S. Thurairajah and Kamal Gunasinghe also, participated at the
conference held at the OPA recently. |
