Education system to undergo overhaul

National Committee to present reforms:

A National Committee will be tasked with formulating a new education system that would cater to the present demands and a development oriented outlook. On President Mahinda Rajapaksa's direction, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has entrusted the formulation of a new Education Act for General Education in Sri Lanka to this National Committee to overhaul the outdated education set up and replace it with a system that keeps pace with the developing trends.

50 estate hospitals under Health Ministry

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has made arrangements to take over another 50 estate hospitals by next year. The ministry has already taken over 20 estate hospitals to upgrade health facilities of the estate community, a Ministry spokesman said.

Tourism resurgence in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka as a tourist destination has made a very strong recovery, Director General Federation of Tour Operators United Kingdom, Andrew V. Cooper said. "Sri Lanka had set backs in 2007, with adverse travel advisories especially in Europe inspired by the North East conflict. These advisories have now been relaxed and Sri Lanka has done well to bounce back," he said.
