SriLankan Airlines official held on remand - Massive racket busted by CID:

25 remanded for having forged Lankan passports with British visas

Twenty five persons who attempted to travel on forged Sri Lankan passports to the UK via Maldives and a SriLankan Airlines official were remanded yesterday by the Negombo Magistrate. Six children who were with the 25 adults were handed over to the National Child Protection Authority.

Security tightened in New York to welcome leaders

Security in the City of New York has been beefed to welcome world leaders attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which opens on September 21. According to Sri Lanka's permanent mission in New York, 56 Heads of state, 24 Heads of Government and 89 Foreign Ministers are scheduled to attend the UNGA this year.

OPEC funds for development projects

Sri Lanka has gained concessions from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for payments towards crude oil purchases, Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said yesterday. Dr. Amunugama, who briefed the media on his recent tour to Vienna, said OPEC has agreed to grant a grace period of up to one year for crude oil payments.
