Eminent Sri Lankan scholar and authority on shipping and ports operations, Dr. B.P. Gajawira has been chosen to present a paper on his Trincomalee Maritime and terrestrial authority TA Concept at the first International Conference on Logistics Strategy for Ports (ICLSP) to be held at Dalian, People's Republic of China from September 22 to 26. The Universities of Antwerp and Dalian jointly sponsor the conference and the papers to be presented were chosen on originality, creativity and relevance. The other papers are from the World Maritime University and Universities in Antwerp, Genoa, Sweden, and France and in Japan and China. Dr. Gajawira was the Deputy Director of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping from 1970 - 1975 and contributed to restructure the maritime transport sector. He represented Sri Lanka, and chaired the first UN Conference of government representatives and shippers' organisations in 1971. Dr. Gajawira graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya in 1950s and in 1960s was a senior executive in the Operations Division of the Colombo Port. He participated in the freight rate negotiations with the Sri Lanka/UK and Continental Liner Shipping Conferences. He was awarded the MSc degree from the University of Wales and the PhD from the University of Liverpool. He has authored a nine volume Shipping Policy Research Studies and a comprehensive study on Trincomalee base on which he will read his paper at ICLSP at Dalian. His academic, research and professional experience as well as his extensive travels to countries, capitals and cities in Europe, North and South America, Africa, Asia and Australia helped to construct the multi-perceptions of the TA Concept embodied in the three volume study titled Trincomalee Maritime and Terrestrial Authority, based on which he will present his paper at the ICLSP. |
