World Peace Day celebrations

World Peace Day falls on September 21. It was mandated by a UN Resolution dated September 7, 2002. Many programs have been planned by organisations to commemorate this event which aims to celebrate or remind people of this dire need, not only for Sri Lanka but also for the entire world.

Peace Initiative is group of like minded young individuals promoting the benefits and concepts of peace among the youth, states press release by Peace Initiative - Youth Movement for Peace.

Sri Lanka is in a state of transition, and the Government and other stakeholders are working actively to achieve the ultimate objective of lasting and just peace.

Sri Lankans can be a part of this by hoisting the National Flag, observing two minutes silence, planting a "Living Peace Tree", wearing white clothing to work. Youth have also been urged to participate in programs and activities which promote love, affection and caring for others.

The Sarvodaya Movement is organising an event in Colombo on September 21 at the BMICH grounds at 2.00 p.m. Many speakers are expected to address this event.
