Health sector funds to be doubled

Budgetary funds allocated for the health sector will be increased from the present 1.3 per cent of the GDP to 2.5 per cent, the new Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva pledged yesterday.

Former Prime Minister the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike's 88th birth anniversary is on April 17, tomorrow. Mrs. Bandaranaike entered politics soon after the demise of her husband, Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike in 1960 and remained in the political arena for nearly 35 years.
