SLMM pulls out of uncleared areas held by Karuna

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission has ceased patrolling in areas held by Karuna in Batticaloa and Ampara as the breakaway Eastern Tiger Commander insisted on a fresh ceasefire agreement with the Government rejecting an amnesty offered by the Tiger Leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran.

S. B. Dissanayake plundered Rs. 2 billion

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday accused Minister S. B. Dissanayake of plundering Rs. 2 billion from the compulsory savings of Samurdhi beneficiaries and offered to remove her impunity voluntarily for the Minister to take her to courts if he can prove her wrong.
