Further division in LTTE imminent - Somawansa Amarasinghe

It is crystal clear that the LTTE is undergoing a split and that a further division in the organisation is imminent, a media release issued by JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said yesterday.

The LTTE which forced the Tamil community to treat Prabhakaran as their Sun God has now become the traitor of the Tamil community in the East, he said.

Therefore it is the duty of all forces who are firmly dedicated to establish democracy and equality to turn this reasonable voice into the voice of the entire Tamil community.

The fulfilment of this requirement without delay will provide the opportunity for the Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims to live like brothers and sisters in any part of the country as free citizens, the release states.

Amarasinghe in the statement says "the LTTE started violence by killing the Tamil democratic political leaders in the North-East. All opponents of the LTTE leader in the North and East have scores to settle with the LTTE leadership due to brutal killings carried out by it.

At present the LTTE leadership is faced with a serious challenge from the Eastern Province LTTE Leader who has dared the former to carry out his death threat.

In a situation where the people are expressing their hatred to the LTTE in public, the challenge against Prabhakaran has been increased several folds, the statement adds.

As a result of the secret pact signed between the Government and the LTTE, the latter was in a position of forming a separate state in the North-East without firing even a single bullet.
