President’s Gold Cup VB from Nov. 20

One of the best sporting events to be held in the country, the President’s Gold Cup Championship, the annual volleyball tournament organized by Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation will start on November 20 at Hasalaka, Kandy with an islandwide participation of over 50,000 players.

Dialog Axiata PLC sponsors the two decade old sporting event for the seventh consecutive year. This year the event will be held for two months where spikers from 300 Grama Seva Divisions including North and East battle it for national honours.

Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister, Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation President Dilan Perera speaking at a press briefing which was held recently regarding the event said that ‘having steered the country’s national sports to great heights over the past couple of years, Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has embarked on an aggressive programme to engage our youth in the sport at grass roots level.’ He also thanked the sponsors for being an active partner in the mega event over the past years.

The winners, second and third places will receive respective President’s ‘ Gold Cup in both men’s and women’s categories, and cash prizes. Special awards will be presented to the best players of the tournament.
