Schoolboys charged for thefts
Four schoolboys, who entered a house through the roof and robbed
items worth Rs. 3,500, were produced before court by the Ingiriya Police
last week.
Two of the schoolboys were suspected of other robberies as well. They
are alleged to have entered a shop through the roof and robbed grocery
items.
Considering the evidence produced before court, Horana Magistrate
Mahinda Ranasingha ordered to release two of the schoolboys.
Meanwhile, a schoolboy and another person arrested by the Ingiriya
Police for the alleged theft of jewellery, cash, electric items and
mobile phones from houses in the Ingiriya area were produced before the
Horana Magistrate’s Court recently.
Horana Magistrate Ranasingha ordered to release the schoolboy on two
personal bonds of Rs 50,000.
Inquiries revealed that this student is due to face GCE (O/L)
examination this year.
The Magistrate ordered to remand the other suspect until November 16.
Inquiries revealed that this suspect had used this student to conduct
robberies.
Police are conducting further inquiries.
Meanwhile, a suspect who had allegedly stolen jewellery and pawned
them to banks and shops was identified by victims in an identification
muster held at the Horana Magistrate Court last week.
The suspect is a resident of Baduraliya area.
The lawsuit will be taken up in Court on November 16.
Rubber sheets robbed
Six suspects alleged to have been involved in the theft of rubber
sheets were arrested by the Ingiriya police and produced before the
Horana Magistrate Court last week.
The Horana Magistrate ordered the release of the trishaw driver, who
transported the rubber sheets, on a Rs 5,000 bail and a personal bail of
Rs 50,000.
The Magistrate also ordered him to appear at the Ingiriya police on
the final Sunday of every month.
The Magistrate ordered the other five suspects to be remanded until
November 16.
The remanded suspects were G P N Silva, S A N Chathuranga, W Nuwan
Tharanga, C Madushika and S Niroshan who were residents of Koshena area.
A large stock of stolen rubber sheets were seized by the Ingiriya
police who are conducting further investigations.
Illicit brew seized
A suspect known as Koha was arrested with 3,892 drams of goda and was
fined Rs 40,000 by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha and also ordered
him to pay a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
Suspect B S Balasuriya is a resident of the Koshena area.
Ingiriya police carried out this raid.
Meanwhile, two suspects arrested with goda were granted Rs. 5,000
bail and personal bonds of Rs. 50,000 by Horana Magistrate Mahinda
Ranasingha. One suspect was arrested with 3,880 drams and the other with
2,100 drams of goda by the Ingiriya Police.
Also, fines totalling Rs. 72,000 were imposed by the Magistrate on
three persons arrested with 16 drams, four with 8 drams and three with
four drams of illicit brew.
Meanwhile, seven suspects arrested with illicit liquor by the
Ingiriya police and were produced before the Horana Magistrate Court
last week. The first three suspects arrested with 8 drams of illicit
liquor were fined Rs 50,000 each by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha
and ordered to release the fourth suspect arrested with 8 drams of
illicit liquor on Rs 10,000 bail and two personal bonds of Rs 50,000.
Also the Magistrate ordered him to appear at the Ingiriya police on
the first Sunday of every month. The fifth and sixth suspects arrested
with 16 drams of illicit liquor were fined Rs 11,000 and Rs 5,500 by the
Magistrate.
The seventh suspect M Premarathna arrested with 24 drams of illicit
liquor was fined Rs 12,000 by the Magistrate.
Electricity pirated
Two neighbours, who had allegedly pirated electricity were arrested
by Ingiriya police and fined Rs 10,000 each by Horana Magistrate Mahinda
Ranasingha.
The Magistrate also ordered the suspected woman to pay Rs 135,057.14
and the other person to pay Rs 71,260.20 to the Ceylon Electricity
Board. The suspects were residents of Yalagala and Halthota area.
Colombo Special Investigation Unit of the Ceylon Electricity Board
carried out this raid.
Fined for causing an accident
A man who was injured due to an accident caused by the collision of
his motorcycle with a bicycle was released on Rs. 5,000 bail and Rs.
50,000 worth two personal bonds by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha.
The Magistrate also ordered him to appear at the Bandaragama police
on the last Sunday of every month between 9 and 12 a.m and abrogated his
licence until the end of his lawsuit.
The case will be taken up on January 31, 2012. |
